.Who, or what, is BEM? Well reader, BEM was the star of a fondly-remembered DC public service ad that ran in mid-1967. As far as I can recall, the ad usually appeared on inside front or back covers, always in black and white. The copy of the BEM ad seen right was scanned from the inside back cover of Flash #170 (May 1967). It's presented here, panel by panel, in glorious color!

But wait -- that's not all. After you read the ad, enter DIAL B for BLOG's new contest, featuring BEM! If you win the contest, you'll see your entry turned into a fake comic book cover Photoshopped by me, Robby Reed, inventor of this contest and creator of this blog! PLUS, you'll also get to select the subject of an upcoming issue of DIAL B for BLOG, the most original web log in comics history!

The BEM CONTEST!
BRAINS EMOTIONS MUSCLES
VERSUS
????? ????? ?????

Superman has Luthor, Batman has the Joker, but poor BEM -- Brains, Emotions, Muscles -- has no evil arch enemy. It's time to FIX that oversight, with DIAL B for BLOG's BEM CONTEST! The object is simple: Just create an arch-enemy for BEM who has an acronym for a name!

For example, to get the most obvious one out of the way, MEB might stand for Massive Evil Badness. You can use more than three letters if you want, but please make your entry a hell of a lot funnier than my bad example. That's it! Understand, reader?

To ENTER the contest, just type your evil creation's name IN THE SUBJECT LINE of our message board by clicking on the message board banner below. Example: MEB: Massive Evil Badness. (Don't forget to leave your e-mail address, so I can contact you if you win.) Enter as many times as you like, and make it funny! UPDATE: Sorry, reader. Contest is now over!
